Born in 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bezos’ mother, Jacklyn Gise, got married with the Cuban-Spanish Miguel Bezos, who adopted Jeffrey and gave him his last name.
He studied engineering at Princeton and worked several years in the optic fiber industry, until 1994, when he founded his first company: the online library Cadabra.com.
This same company would take later the name Amazon, being a huge success and imposing its game changing business strategy.
Conquering the Outer Space
As we told you in last week’s bio, Elon Musk entered the aerospatial industry with his company SpaceX in 2002. However, what we did not tell you is that Jeff Bezos founded another aerospace manufacturer and spaceflight services company before him: Blue Origin.

This company’s last spaceship is New Glenn, an orbital launch vehicle. It is expected to make its initial test launch prior to 2020, 8 years after the engineers began the design process.
Jeff Bezos started to use robots as workers of the warehouses, now referred to as “fulfillment centers“. Some robots look like little “roombas“, programmed to carry shelves around the warehouse using movement sensors. They can move at 3/4 mph and lift tremendously heavy weights. There you can find robotic arms too, which pick up and place down different objects.
Since Amazon implemented the use of this robots, the efficiency of the fulfillment centers has grown a 20%. Nevertheless, their policy is not to replace human labor with robots, but to make them collaborate.
